Why Blog?
This seems to be a stupid question. Everyone knows why to blog. Chances are 5 year old’s around you might even know. Its not that I don’t have an answer but have been struggling for quite some time.
With this first post (hope I manage to get through this :)), I finally would start something I wanted to do for so long.
Why I did not start earlier?
- I was scared. I never thought of myself as much of a writer. Would I make sense? Would people enjoy reading what I write? Would the flow be correct? blah blah. As with everything else fear of failure could be the biggest stumbling block to start something new. I finally said to myself - You are the Start Up Guy. Fuck the procrastination. Just start.
- Would I add value? I am totally passionate about entrepreneurship and I want to write about my journey so far / thoughts / lessons learned or anything worth sharing. You get it. But then, I also read like crazy, blogs of totally awesome rockers who have written, and continue to write brilliant stuff on entrepreneurship and start ups. So, wouldn’t it be better if people just read their blogs? I mean lets get real, why waste your time on something I have to tell when their is already such great content out there.
- Lack of peer role model. I keep bumping into blogs of friends and acquaintances and sometimes do find some interesting pieces. But, not even one person I know writes regularly. Most of them blog once in like a month or 2 and most of the time its too random. So, I thought this thing might not be that easy to do regularly. So what’s the point of even starting.
But then, some sense prevailed and I found the courage and few compelling reasons on why I should start writing.
1. I am the Start Up guy. Need say more?
2. I too can add value.
- There is so much noise on web and its increasing everyday at an alarming rate. The least I can do is be the filter and channel to guide people to great stuff I come across and also add a bit of my own and hope some might find them useful.
- Personal thoughts/lessons learned/advice might turn out to useful for people who know me or could relate to my experiences based on my age, location, the entrepreneurship scene around. So, even though there are great blogs out there and people interested should totally read them religiously I could add value because of it being specific, personal, and niche.
3. Even if no one read my blog , this could only be my personal journal. I can at least force my kids (*conditions applied) to read them. Where will they run? :) Ah, the evil mind.
So, here I am with my first post. Hope I can get to my second post, and then the third, and then finally get on to an auto pilot mode.
If you managed to come this far, I thank you with all my heart for your patience. Please comment if you like and help this poor soul with some confidence.
See you soon!
